The cost of everything seems to be going up – food, clothing, cars, and even college tuition! It’s difficult to get a handle on these costs and to try to live within a budget. And in these rough economic times, it’s even more of a challenge.

One thing that’s come through loud and clear in the last few months is that the way we’ve been living in this country needs to be re-examined. Many people have been living lives based on consumption and disposability. We buy things, want new things, buy new things and throw the old things away. We use energy in much the same way. We consume energy to power the things we use on a daily basis – televisions, computers, washing machines and air conditioners. That power often uses nonrenewable resources and can be expensive.

Solar power is an inexpensive option for your energy needs. Turning your home into a solar powered home makes a great deal of sense. Gas, oil and coal are expensive energy options and they are resources we are depleting at an alarming rate. Solar is an abundant resource. We can’t use it up. And the best part is that solar power is free. Once you invest in the solar panels necessary to harness solar energy, you will have no more energy costs.

When people investigate the cost of solar panels to enable them to use the sun’s rays as their source of renewable energy, they are often dismayed to find that the equipment is high priced. Often, the investment required to buy the solar panels cannot be recouped for years in relation to savings on your energy bills. What many people don’t realize is that you can make solar panels yourself.

Solar do it yourself panels are easy to make, once you obtain the instructions. They can be made from materials you have in your own home already coupled with materials obtained at your local hardware or home improvement store. Because these solar panels require no special materials, they are not expensive to maintain. These do it yourself solar panels can be created in a relatively short period of time. Depending on how quickly you work, they can be made in just a couple of weekends! The investment of time and money is minimal when you think of the returns you will get.

Harnessing your own solar energy will provide your home with more than enough energy to meet your daily needs. You will soon find that you can actually generate more energy than you can consume! When others in your neighborhood or community are complaining of rising energy costs, you can feel confident that your investment in do it yourself solar energy panels was the right choice for you to make.

The investment of time and money you make in solar power will save money immediately. You will not have to wait years to get a return on this investment. Your investment in do it yourself solar will preserve our natural energy resources and benefit future generations.

Solar power sounds like a great idea. Harness the sun’s rays and convert it into usable electrical energy to run your home. No more electric bills! It must be too good to be true! Why isn’t everyone signing up to have solar panels put on their homes? The biggest reason people don’t convert their homes to solar energy is the cost.

Solar panels are expensive. They typical home will need solar panels with an output of 1000 to 10,000 watts. In order to install solar panels and the system necessary to convert the solar energy into electrical energy, these systems will cost anywhere from $3000 to over five times that amount, depending on the size of your home and your energy needs. The government offers rebates and tax breaks on these systems, which can diffuse up to half of the cost, but even at half the cost, conventional solar panels are very expensive. The solar systems can generate energy that would save you anywhere from about $400 to $3000 per year, but at that rate, it will take you years before you can recoup your initial investment.

If you want to get involved with solar energy in your home, but don’t want to spend that kind of money, what do you do?

One alternative is to make your solar panels for yourself. It’s cheap and easy to do. All you need to do is find the instructions and get going! These do it yourself solar panels require materials that you will most likely already have in your home. If not, you can find these materials at your local hardware or home improvement store. Fully illustrated instructions are available for you to follow to make your inexpensive solar panels. Video directions are available as well.

Cheap solar panels are a great solution to a lot of the problems we’re facing today. They offer a reliable, safe alternative form of energy that is renewable. We all need to think about how we’re using our energy resources and in what condition we’re leaving the planet for our children and grandchildren. These solar panels are extremely cost effective. For less than $200, you can create a solar energy system that can save you up to $1000 per year. Imagine what you could do with that sort of money savings, especially in this economy!

When you get the information to learn how to make the cheap solar panels, you’ll also get information on how to create a complimentary wind system, harnessing the power of the wind when the solar panels are dormant. You’ll also be told how to construct a power system using these two alternative energy options as well as a storage system, ensuring you are never without power no matter what.

Imagine the independence you’ll have when you construct and install these solar panels. If you desire to go completely “off the grid,” you’ll be able to using this system. You’ll save more money than you ever thought possible while still meeting your family’s energy needs.

Residential solar panels are installed on or around your home as part of a system of solar energy designed to generate electricity for your home. This electricity is most often used to run the major appliances in your home, such as computers and refrigerators. The electricity generated by these solar panels often can be more than enough to meet your energy needs.

When choosing solar panels for your home, you’ll need to consider a few factors. The first is to assess your residential energy needs. How much electricity do you need to generate? You’ll be able to then decide on the size of the necessary solar panels. Choosing where to place those solar panels is an important part of creating your alternative energy plan.

Solar panels are often designed to be placed on the roof of your home, but there are other options. When determining where to place solar panels residential, you need to take into consideration the amount of shade the area you are placing them gets. Solar panels operate only when sunlight hits them. The energy converted by the panels can then be stored in batteries, but to optimize the amount of possible energy created by solar panels, the panels should not be shaded. The solar panels will create less energy on cloudy days and will create no energy at night. If you are unable to mount solar panels on your roof, ground-mount panels are available, as well as a few other options.

Residential solar panels are designed to go years without maintenance. They are made of durable materials and are designed to withstand the elements to which they will be exposed, such as hail and excessive winds.

Often, people choose to add an alternative source of power to their solar generated power. Many people choose to keep their connection to “the grid”, keeping a source of electricity through their electric utility company. Still others turn to greener, more inexpensive sources of power such as wind as a complimentary source for their solar power.

Investigate the incentive programs offered by the government concerning the installation of residential solar panels. These incentive plans, designed to promote solar energy use, can be very beneficial in offsetting the cost of the solar panels as well as the installation and can make the investment in converting to solar energy much more affordable.

Before investing in residential solar panels, it’s always a good idea to check with your homeowner’s association to be clear about your neighborhood regulations and about any restrictions that might be placed on your property in terms of adding alternative energy sources. Many homeowners’ associations have strict rules about adding solar panels and windmills, but many states have laws that prohibit homeowners’ associations from restricting alternative energy devices. It’s also a good idea to check with your power company to see what their rules and regulations are about connecting your solar energy system to the grid. If you are designing a completely “off grid” system, be sure that you are capable of meeting all your energy needs.

As the price of gas, and nearly everything else, goes up, it’s natural to start looking around for alternatives to expensive fuel costs. In today’s tight economy, people are looking to squeeze everything they can out of a dollar, as well as looking to save wherever and whenever they can. It’s become somewhat chic to avoid conspicuous consumption. The big, gas guzzling SUV is no longer a popular driving option. Large homes that gobble up huge amounts of electricity and oil or gas are no longer considered cool. Being a tightwad is coming back into fashion.

One of the ways people are looking to cut back on their spending and consumption is in their energy consumption. As people reflect on their energy habits and needs, they can see that we are in somewhat of an energy freefall. We rely very heavily on energy resources that are being depleted and we rely on other countries to supply us with some of our energy needs. With a look to becoming an energy independent country, we need to look at how we consume various fuels, and we need to look to alternative ways to produce energy.

Solar energy is a clean, efficient, sustainable way to produce energy cheaply. It is becoming more and more affordable to install a solar energy system for your home. With the advance in photovoltaic technology, solar panels are being refined and becoming more streamlined and less expensive to produce. When looking to convert your home to solar power, you’ll need to explore the different solar panels that are available. Perhaps the most economical system of solar panels is a system of solar roof panels. These panels can bring in vast amounts of sunlight and convert that light into electric energy. That energy can be used in your home or stored in batteries.

The solar roof panels are made from durable materials and are designed to withstand exposure to harsh weather conditions. While solar roof panels are becoming more affordable, it can still be an expensive proposition to convert your home. Often, people look at the idea of making their own solar panels. Do it yourself solar panel kits are quite affordable and the panels can be made with materials found locally. Be careful to explore the options available in these do it yourself kits to ensure that you will be able to use the roof panels on your home. Examine the structure of your roof to see how much weight it can bear and compare that to how heavy your solar roof panels will be. Look at the direction the roof faces to see how much sun your panels will be exposed to on a daily basis. Assess how much shade the roof panels will get in a day and see if that’s too much to make your roof panels viable.

Once you’ve made the commitment to solar energy, find the energy system that is best suited to your home. Explore your budget and your comfort level with building things yourself and decide the best option for you.

Green is more than a color these days. For many people, it’s becoming the definition of the lifestyle they want to embrace. For most people, the word green means to be environmentally conscious and aware of the choices we make every day. Green means trying to choose the most fuel-efficient car with the lowest amount of emissions. Green means choosing products that are grown organically and sold with the least amount of packaging. Green means recycling and composting. Green means making environmentally friendly choices when it comes to utilizing energy. Green can often mean solar.

Solar energy systems are increasing in popularity in the United States today. As photovoltaic technology advances (the technology behind the solar panel), solar energy systems are becoming affordable options for more and more people. The US government is incentivizing alternative methods of energy production, and tax breaks and price discounts are given to people choosing to install solar energy in their homes.

Photovoltaic (PV) systems are the systems you are most familiar with when you think of solar energy. Solar panels used PV technology. These PV systems use sunlight and semi-conductors to create energy. The semi-conductors absorb part of the sunlight and when this happens, electrons are released and an electron flow is created. This electron flow is the current that creates the energy or power. The more semi-conductor cells a panel has, the more energy can be created. This energy being created is DC energy that needs to be transformed, through a device called an inverter, to AC current. This AC current is suitable for use in your home.

The energy from this solar system can be used to power your home in several different ways. “Grid-tied” or grid-interconnected systems are probably the most popular system in use today. When power is created from your solar energy system, it is used by your home or business first. Whatever is not used is then inverted back to the grid, or sent to the utility company. You’ll get energy credits per kilowatt-hour from your utility company for this energy. If you produce a large amount of solar energy and don’t have high energy use, it’s possible that this system can make you money. These systems can’t store power in a battery. A grid-interconnected system with a battery back up is available. Often, these systems are open to add on other alternative energy generating systems, such as wind. “Off Grid” systems also exist. These are stand-alone solar energy systems that are not connected in any way to conventional utility systems. These systems typically rely on batteries to store excess energy and are often used in remote areas where no conventional sources of power exist.

Solar energy systems are a green alternative to more conventional energy systems. These systems can be self-sustaining or they can even produce energy that you can send along through the system for someone else to use. These green options are affordable and sustainable and can help make the US a more energy independent country.

People have been harnessing the sun’s energy for as long as the sun has been in existence. The sophistication of those harnessing abilities has grown enormously over time. Today, solar energy is harnessed both actively and passively. Passive solar energy is used in simple ways, such as orienting your home with windows that capture the sun’s rays for heat or designing your home to include materials that utilize the heat from the sun’s rays efficiently. Active solar power most often occurs today using solar panels.

Solar panels are designed to collect the sun’s rays and to then convert those rays into mechanical or electrical energy. Sunlight can be converted to electrical energy using photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP). Have you seen the small solar panel on a solar powered calculator? That is a PV cell. These cells convert sunlight into electricity, as the word implies. Photo means sun and voltaic means energy. These PV cells are made of materials called semiconductors. A much-simplified way to describe how the solar panels work is that when the sun’s light hits the solar panel; a certain portion of that light is absorbed into the semiconductor material. This light that is absorbed is actually energy, which loosens electrons in the semiconductor. The flow of electrons happens in a specific direction and that flow creates the current used to generate the electricity.

Solar panels energy can help you harness a tremendous amount of energy for your home. They can be used to create electricity to run your major appliances and to heat and cool your home. Solar energy is an intermittent source of power. Because there is no sunlight during the night or on cloudy days, solar energy needs to be supplemented with an alternative source of power. A good complimentary energy source for solar is wind. Solar energy can be stored in batteries as well.

Many people have been tempted to use solar power to create the energy needed to run their homes, only to be discouraged by the size of the panels and the high cost of buying them and installing them. As solar technology has been refined, the size of the solar panels has decreased. Many people are surprised by just how much energy can be generated from a series of small panels. The cost of the solar panels has gone down as well.

Solar panels are now a cost effective way to create the energy your home needs to run efficiently. Many people find that they are able to generate and store more power than they can actually use. This translates into savings on energy bills. It’s possible to generate so much energy that the power company might even end up paying you for the excess energy you create. Solar panels technology is easy to understand and solar panels can be created with materials you often have in your home or that you can find in your home improvement store. Investing in solar panels makes good sense.

Our society consumes large amounts of energy on a regular basis. Traditionally, this energy has been created from non-renewable sources such as oil, natural gas, wood and fossil fuels. As we learn the effects of global warming and as we see our sources of energy depleted, our society is beginning to realize that we need to change our ways and focus on other forms of energy – renewable forms of energy.

Renewable energy is energy that is created from sources that are naturally replenished. Examples of renewable energy sources are sun and wind, water, geothermal and biomass (wood and solid waste). About a hundred years ago, about ninety percent of our energy came from the use of wood. Just over one percent of all energy produced today comes from solar energy. But winds of change are in the air. Investment dollars are being pumped into many different types of renewable energy. Wind energy is developing rapidly. Solar energy is also developing, although not quite as rapidly.

Over half of the renewable energy used in the United States today is used to create electricity. When these renewable sources of energy are used, the need to use fossil fuels is lessened. Using these renewable sources of energy is a green alternative and will help preserve our planet’s resources. In the past, we’ve not relied on renewable energy for several reasons. The primary reason is the cost of the renewable alternatives. Photovoltaic technology, used in creating solar panels, has been costly. As the technology has been refined, the costs have gone down. As the technology becomes cheaper, solar energy becomes more cost efficient and more widely used. Renewable energy resources, such as solar and wind energy, have also not been reliable in the past. Rainy or cloudy days have caused solar production to cease and calm days have caused wind turbines to stop.

In the more recent past, the high prices of oil and natural gas have increased the pressure to develop renewable technologies, such as solar energy. The government has enacted legislation to try to increase the use of renewable forms of energy with the hope of making the United States more energy independent. Incentives have also been put into place so that people will be able to afford to integrate renewable energy technologies into their daily lives.

Solar energy can be used in many different ways. Passive solar buildings are being designed to utilize the rays of the sun to heat buildings efficiently. Solar air conditioning is available, as is solar heat. Solar energy is frequently in streetlights and in railroad signals.

Investing in renewable energy sources is as good for the planet as it is good for your pocketbook. There are ways to create solar energy systems that don’t require an enormous cash investment. These solar systems can dramatically decrease, or in some cases completely end, your dependence on traditional forms of energy production. As we focus on the future and our energy production and consumption, renewable solar energy will begin to be a force in the United States energy production.

Stretching a dollar has rarely been tougher in the United States than it is today. Everything costs more, from the gas for your car to the organic food you want to feed your children. Couple this fact with the idea that we should be focusing on green energy alternatives whenever we can and you’ve got a good reason to look into solar energy for your home. Solar energy is clean, efficient, and renewable. It can also be affordable. Solar energy can be used as a method to heat your home. Solar energy is a cleaner alternative to burning fossil fuels, making it a better choice for your family and for the planet.

Solar home heating can be a viable option for your home. Solar heating units can be as simple as a window air heater collector, which can be purchased for several hundred dollars. Solar heating systems can be complex and can range in price up to tens of thousands of dollars. You should take some time to assess your home heating needs and wants, as well as to investigate some of the solar home heating options available to you. The more information you learn, the more informed your choice can be and the more satisfied you’ll be that you spend your money wisely.

You’ll start the choosing of a home heating system with an examination of the location and the heating needs of your home. Many homes are not situated properly on their lots to maximize solar energy production. This may be a factor in your decision. Often, neighborhoods or homeowners’ associations have restrictions about the amount and the type of solar collection units you can put on and around your home. You’ll need to learn what you can and can’t do in your neighborhood. Keep in mind that some states have laws that prevent the restriction of the placement of alternative energy collection devices on your property.

Think about how much heat your home will need. What is the climate where you live? Do you have harsh winters where you’ll be combating bitter cold for long periods of time? Or do you live in a more temperate climate where your heating needs are more modest and for a shorter duration? You’ll most likely want to design a solar heating system to take care of between forty to eighty percent of your heating needs. Less than forty percent doesn’t make economic sense. You’ll spend more on installing the system than you will save using the solar heat. Think about what sorts of passive solar collection devices you can add to your home that will help decrease your heating needs. A well insulated home designed to take in and retain heat will be a big help to your active heating system.

Most building codes require homes to have back up methods of heat in addition to the solar home heating system. This is for your safety in case the solar heating system fails to meet the heating needs of the building.

Understanding your solar home heating options can help you find a solar heating system that will meet all your needs.

Solar power is one of the cleanest, most efficient types of power available today. Solar panels harness the sun’s rays and convert them into usable energy for your home or business. Solar power is available nearly everywhere on the planet in a usable and sustainable form. It is a form of energy that is renewable and we never have to worry about it being depleted. So why aren’t more people using solar power in their homes and offices?

The answer to that question seems to be the cost of installing a solar energy system. Solar energy systems depend on photovoltaic technology to convert the sun’s rays to usable energy in your home. A group of semi-conductors are arranged in a solar panel and those semi-conductors absorb the sun’s rays. Electrons are released and a current is created, creating energy. That energy is then converted to the DC current that is used in your home.

Photovoltaic (PV) technology has been refined throughout the last two decades and that technology has become more affordable. Yet often, even with the incentives and tax breaks offered by the government for homes utilizing solar technology, the price of the solar components is too high for people to afford. Frustrated by this, often people will decide to create their own solar energy systems.

When looking to create a solar energy system, you need to start with the solar panel. You’ll need to assess your energy needs in order to understand the size and scope of the solar panel you’ll need. Once you decide on the size, you’ll need to find a do it yourself kit to tell you what materials you’ll need and how to go about putting the solar panel together. The materials you’ll need can be found locally in your own hardware or home improvement store. Once you get all your materials together, you’ll be able to make your own solar panel in relatively short order.

Many websites offer information about how to make a solar panel so take some time and really read through the information available to you. Consider your own DIY skill level and decide how comfortable you feel with the process of building a solar panel. Look for current information about how to make your solar panel, as technology changes at a rapid rate. Look at the different price ranges of this information as well. You will be able to find excellent information about how to make a solar panel for under two hundred dollars. People will be surprised at how easy it is to actually make your own solar panel and should not be intimidated by the process. Take time to understand thoroughly the entire system of solar energy you’re building, including how to store the solar energy and how to add alternative sources of energy to your system, such as wind energy.

Information on how to make a solar panel and how to create your own solar energy system is available and inexpensive. You can make the choice to go solar affordable by doing it yourself.

Converting your home to solar power is a big commitment. You’ll need to spend time researching the types of solar energy systems that are available and how they work. You’ll need to assess your own energy needs as well, and study the energy uses of you and your family. Once you put together a picture of your energy needs and the sorts of systems that are out there that can match them, it’s a matter of making some choices and deciding how best to go about converting your home from conventional energy methods to solar and other alternative energy methods.

When you are converting to solar, you’ll need to take a look at the sorts of solar panels your home can utilize. Solar panels are available in different sizes and you’ll need to choose between ground based solar panels and roof panels. If your home is being newly constructed, you’ll be able to utilize roof panels because you’ll be able to ensure a few important things. You’ll want to orient your new home so the roof is south facing. This will ensure that the roof panels will be exposed to sunlight for the maximum amount of time each day. You’ll want to prohibit shade from shadowing your roof, as shade will also inhibit the amount of sun the roof panels will take in. If your home is not new construction, you’ll need to examine your roof carefully. Perhaps consult a professional who can help you decide how much weight your roof can withstand. Solar panels can be heavy and once these panels are installed, expect that they will stay on for the next thirty to fifty years.

If your roof cannot bear that sort of weight for a sustained amount of time, other options are available. Ground based solar panels are an option for many people. Many different options and configurations are available for your home but it’s important to examine the weather conditions in your area as well as elevation and orientation to the sun.

As photovoltaic technology advances, solar technology and solar energy systems continue to be refined. These advances make solar energy more enticing and certainly more and more affordable. As energy prices continue to climb, it continues to make more and more sense to take a hard look at solar energy as an alternative for your home. Alternative energy options have become quite important to the government in this country and the government is creating incentives and tax breaks to make energy alternatives such as solar affordable. Often, these incentives are not quite enough. It is quite simple and inexpensive to build your own home solar panels to use in the creation of your own alternative energy system.

Home solar panels can be designed and configured to meet the needs of your house and your family. Because they can be created and installed affordably, they have changed the face of solar energy in this country. Solar energy can be an affordable, reliable alternative to conventional energy systems.
